18mm Marine Plywood Sheets 12"x12" to 8'x4' Sizes We offer high-quality marine-grade 18mm plywood that complies with British Standard BS1088. This means it is bonded with Weather Boil Proof (WBP) and made with untreated tropical hardwood veneers to ensure longevity and high levels of weather resistance. Our 18mm marine plywood is available in a variety of different sizes. Whether you need 1ft x 1ft or 8ft x 4ft marine plywood sheets for your project, we make the order process simple and hassle-free. Marine Plywood Features: Multi-ply construction with a high-quality face and core veneers. Guaranteed to be free from core gaps. All our wood is sustainably sourced from managed resources to give you added peace of mind. For use in the most demanding of conditions where repeated exposure to moisture is likely. Cut sheet size may vary slightly due to loss of blade width during cutting. What is the difference between marine plywood and regular plywood? The difference between marine plywood and regular plywood is that marine plywood is comprised of many thin layers, while regular plywood has fewer, thicker layers and is made with a softwood like Douglas Fir or Pine. Marine-grade plywood has a finer grain and is harder and stronger than plywood and is ideal for use in external areas. Our marine-grade plywood is completely free from core gaps and can stand up to long-term exposure to moisture. Is marine plywood waterproof? In and of itself marine plywood is not waterproof. However, to become marine-grade plywood a waterproof glue has to be applied to each layer to prevent delamination. This enables it to be used in various outdoor structures, including exterior construction, marine projects, and outdoor furniture building. Marine plywood is also a popular choice for coastal areas where much higher natural moisture levels are present in the air. Do you need to treat marine plywood? While a waterproof adhesive is used to seal together the wood it also needs to be treated to increase its lifespan and durability when coming into contact with moisture. To seal marine plywood follow these steps: • Clean the plywoodUse either a soft cloth or a paper towel that has been dipped in acetone and wipe down the surface. This will help remove any stains or grease before treatment. Move on to the next step 1-2 hours later. • Sand the surfaceBefore any treatment can begin you need to sand the plywood. Use 80-grit sandpaper to go over every side (as well as the edges) and when done wipe away any surface dust. • Add the first coatUse a clear, penetrating epoxy that will soak into the wood as this will ensure it will dry transparent and will generally require less maintenance than other sealants. Marine-grade sealer can also be used but this usually requires more coats and frequent application. Ensure the sealer is applied to all sides and edges using a roller or foam brush. • Apply more coatsGenerally, you should apply as many coats as there are layers. Scuff up the wood in-between each coat with sandpaper to ensure the next layer adheres to the surface. Always allow enough time for drying before adding another coat.
