About this Woodrow's whisky This expressive single cask release from Woodrow's of Edinburgh sits firmly within the Warehouse Reserve range and offers a thoughtful take on the classic sherried style of Tamdhu. Distilled in September 2014 and bottled in May 2025 at natural cask strength, this 10-year-old Speyside malt demonstrates how careful finishing can add depth and intensity without losing balance. The whisky began its life in a refill hogshead, allowing Tamdhu’s naturally rich, malty spirit to develop with restraint. It was then transferred into a first fill European oak PX sherry quarter cask, a smaller format that accelerates interaction between spirit and wood. PX quarter casks are particularly impactful, concentrating dark fruit sweetness, spice, and texture over the 21 month finishing period, while European oak brings additional tannin, structure, and savoury complexity. On the nose, the whisky opens with caramel and bright orange zest, followed by crisp apple and ripe mango, with a subtle wisp of tobacco adding depth. The palate is oily and richly textured, delivering toffee pennies, poached pear, tropical fruit, and sultanas, supported by hazelnuts and gentle earthy undertones that ground the sweetness. The finish is long and confidently spiced, lingering with white pepper, star anise, and candied ginger. Bottled at 58.6% ABV with natural colour and without chill filtration, this is a bold yet composed Tamdhu that balances PX richness with the distillery’s underlying structure. With an outturn of just 131 bottles, it’s a focused, characterful release that will particularly appeal to fans of modern sherry cask maturation done with precision rather than excess.
